El primer vuelo del “Shuttle Carrier
Aircraft 905”, un avión de pasajeros
Boeing 747-123 reconstruido que
tiene un Space Shuttle en su espalda,
tuvo lugar en 1977. Durante los cinco
vuelos de prueba para comprobar
las características de vuelo y de ate-
rrizaje del orbitador se desacoplaron
los transbordadores espaciales del
SCA 905. En marzo 2012 tuvo lugar
el último vuelo del SCA 905 con el
Space Shuttle “Discovery”.
The “Shuttle Carrier Aircraft 905“, a converted Boeing 747-123 passenger aircraft
with a space shuttle anchored to its back, took its first flight in 1977. The space
shuttles were decoupled from the SCA 905 during five test flights to assess the flight
and landing characteristics of the orbiter. In March of 2012 the SCA 905 took its last
flight with the space shuttle “Discovery“.
